EDITOR'S LETTER

 
 

Technology. Convenience. Satisfaction. 


These three words weave into each other, well, perfectly. They cannot live with or without one another. Even if their sentiments are flipped into the reverse. 

No technology? Missing phone? No wifi?! = Inconvenient. No one bugging you via email because there is no service on the beach? That's different. That (can be) f*cking satisfying. 

In an age of information over-load, it's nice to be able to filter down what the vehicle of technology is bringing you in your day to day life. We here at Matte Black believe that the information that's sent your way (whether that be through a paid ad on Instagram, a wheat pasting campaign you glance at as you slowly crawl along Lincoln Boulevard, or an article that's sent to your inbox) should add value to your experience, not take precious moments away from you. It should be interesting, attention holding, and useful. If you get wifi on the beach and your phone starts popping off, the frills of technology should be a welcome distraction from your blissful seat in the sand.

That's what this issue is filled with. Interesting, attention holding and useful information - all bundled up and sent to you via the technology vehicle. Isn't that conveniently satisfying?

Art became the most comfortable way I was able to interact with the world around me." Dustin Giallanza is perhaps one of the most thoughtful individuals you may ever have the pleasure of meeting. His energy is so infectious, you can tell when he’s entered a room. As you can tell, his work is breathtaking; dripping in escapism and fantasy… And he actually really gets this whole “life” thing. It’s a pleasure to get to sit down and speak with Dustin about life’s path, his process, opinions about the world, and advice on how he sets himself apart from an oversaturated photography scene.
